The Catalan Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock, Fisheries and Food is organised into various areas. One of these is the Soil and Environmental Management of Agricultural Production Service. The Service’s main activities are to:
a) Inventory and evaluate agricultural and soil resources, soil fertility, and crop requirements.
b) Create and collaborate in the creation of soil maps of Catalonia.
c) Monitor the assessment of soil fertility and compliance with fertiliser regulations.
d) Implement actions on the management of livestock manure, nitrates and fertilisation.
e) Support the Environmental Committee in the area of the Directorate-General’s powers.
f) Promote and monitor the adoption of good farming practices.
g) Coordinate actions related to the best available techniques in livestock farming and in livestock manure management.
h) Promote and monitor the adoption of good agricultural and environmental practices.
i) Implement actions to mitigate and adapt to climate change in agriculture and livestock farming, and to adopt renewable energies in agricultural management, to help minimise climate change.
